How GIF Cropping Works
Upload your animated GIF and drag the handles to select the region you want to keep. The tool shows a static first frame so you can place the crop region precisely — then applies the same crop to every frame in the animation using ImageMagick’s -crop WxH+X+Y +repage command. The result is a fully animated GIF containing only your selected region.
Use the numeric X, Y, Width, and Height fields for pixel-precise control — useful when you know the exact coordinates or need to reproduce the same crop across multiple files. The drag handles and numeric inputs stay in sync at all times.
Frequently asked questions
Does cropping keep all frames of the animation?
Yes. The crop is applied to every frame of the GIF. The output animation has the same frame count and frame timing as the original — only the canvas dimensions and cropped region change.
Why do I see a still image instead of the animated GIF?
The preview shows the first frame of your GIF as a static image so you can position the crop handles accurately. Once you click “Crop GIF,” the full animation is processed and the result preview plays the complete cropped animation.
What is the minimum crop size?
The minimum crop region is 2 × 2 pixels. For practical use, aim for at least 50 × 50 px — very small crops may not render well in most browsers.
Does the file size change after cropping?
Yes — cropping reduces the canvas dimensions, so the output GIF is typically smaller than the original. The exact reduction depends on the crop region and how much of the image content is removed.
What file size limit applies?
