Audio Volume Changer is a free browser-based tool for adjusting the loudness of audio files without installing software. Upload an MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, FLAC, or AAC file up to 50 MB, choose an adjustment method, and download the result. Two modes cover the most common use cases: a direct dB gain for precise manual control, and EBU R128 loudness normalization for content destined for streaming platforms, podcasts, or broadcast.

dB gain vs. LUFS normalization

Adjusting by decibels applies a uniform gain shift across the entire file. A +6 dB increase roughly doubles perceived loudness; −6 dB halves it. The range is −20 to +20 dB. This mode is suited to simple volume corrections — making a too-quiet recording louder before editing, or reducing a clipping peak before sending to a collaborator.

Loudness normalization (EBU R128) measures integrated loudness across the whole file in LUFS and adjusts the gain so the output hits a specific target. The three presets map to real-world platform targets: Quiet (−16 LUFS) is appropriate for audiobooks and spoken word; Normal (−14 LUFS) matches YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and most major streaming platforms; Loud (−10 LUFS) is typical for short social video clips where maximum presence is preferred. Normalization is more reliable than manual dB adjustment for platform delivery because it accounts for the actual perceived loudness of the content, not just the peak amplitude.

Output format

The output uses the same format and container as the input. An MP3 input produces an MP3 output; a WAV produces a WAV. No format conversion happens — only the volume changes. The original sampling rate and bit depth are preserved.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make an MP3 louder online?

Upload your MP3 to AT USE Audio Volume Changer. Choose "Adjust dB" and set a positive value — +6 dB roughly doubles perceived loudness. Click Adjust Volume and download. The whole process takes under a minute.

What is normalization and how is it different from adjusting dB?

Normalization analyzes your audio's loudness across the whole file (measured in LUFS) and adjusts it to hit a specific target. Adjusting dB applies a fixed gain shift without measuring actual perceived loudness. For content going to YouTube, Spotify, or podcasts, use Normalize to Normal (−14 LUFS). For precise manual control, use Adjust dB.

Does changing the volume affect audio quality?

For direct dB gain, AT USE re-encodes only as needed using FFmpeg's high-quality filters. Normalization uses the EBU R128 loudnorm filter, the same standard used by broadcast studios. Both preserve the original sampling rate and bit depth.

What audio formats are supported?

MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, FLAC, and AAC — up to 50 MB and 20 minutes in duration. The output file uses the same format and container as the input.

Is my audio file kept private?

Yes. Your file is uploaded over HTTPS, processed on the server, and automatically deleted after you download it. AT USE does not store, analyze, or share uploaded audio files.
