Choosing the right format

For web: WEBP gives the best compression-to-quality ratio for photos on modern browsers. AVIF compresses further but has less universal compatibility as of 2026. When should I use PNG instead of JPG?

PNG is the right format for images with transparency, logos, screenshots, text overlaid on a solid background, or graphics with sharp edges and flat colors. Which image formats support transparent backgrounds?
